Junior Pre School Room

 About our Program

In the Junior Preschool room each child is allocated a focus teacher who will observe, plan and program for their individual needs, interests and development.

Each observation taken is referenced to the Australian Early Childhood Curriculum – the Early Years Learning Framework.

The curriculum framework consists of five learning outcomes:

–       Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity.

–       Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world.

–       Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing.

–       Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners.

–       Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators.

It is the intent of your child’s focus teacher to ensure your child is growing and developing in all areas of the curriculum.

The individual observation, planning and implementation process that occurs for each child is formal evidence of their learning journey through the framework and their time in Junior Preschool.

There are several ways to track your child’s learning journey, including:

·      Portfolios: Your child’s learning journey will be documented in an individual portfolio, which you are free you view at all times.

While it is primarily a record of their time at Carabella, we also encourage you to take it home and contribute any special news, occasions or interests from home as well.

Your contributions can serve as a catalyst for new projects and interests within the Carabella environment and add an additional dimension to the Junior Preschool program.

You can expect to see art work, photos and anecdotal evidence of your child’s learning in their portfolio.

·                Daily Reflection: Each day a brief evaluation of experiences will be completed by each Educator for their focus group, outlining experiences from the day and the children’s interest.

These reflections will be referenced back to the Early Years Learning Framework.

Reflection sheets will be displayed for families to read each afternoon along with a slideshow of photos from the day which will be displayed near the front entrance of the room.

·                Group planning will be carried out in a table located near the sign in/out sheet consisting of spontaneous and planned experiences.

The table is completed on a weekly basis indicated by the date in the top right hand corner and experiences can carry over from week to the next.
